I don't know how anyone could give this book five stars unless they're family or being paid (and I couldn't lie like that for money or family). The writing is horrible to read. It constantly switches from past tense to present tense. If that isn't irritating enough, the speech of every person is so stilted that they may as well be robots. No one speaks like that. The author wrote that the neighbors were trying to impress but the whole time I was reading, I thought the author was trying to show how smart he thinks he is.

I wanted to like the book because I live very near the area and I thought it would be an interesting read. It definitely was not. I wish self published authors would have someone who won't lie to them read the book and critique it before they release it. Make sure it's someone with a good grasp of the English language who reads regularly. I would be really upset if I had paid money for this book. I would not recommend this book.

The Shortcut edition by W Sabol Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

I'm not sure what else to say about this. It's not even that the story is exceptionally bad. But the writing ... this author clearly needs to work with a good editor. The constant (and I mean constant) shift from past to present tense was so distracting and aggravating that I literally gave up by the third chapter. And that's not the kind of thing I do - seriously, I'll stick through anything and read it to the end. But this one, I just couldn't.
I have a dislike of books about aliens... but as I had not read the description before buying, it is my own fault. I like to be surprised... and this one did.

The characters were well personalised, and I think there would be someone in there that everyone could associate with. The plot was steady and kept me interested.

If you like alien stories with more than a touch of creepiness, then you will enjoy this book. If you are craving horror... it's not for you.

I think this would make a great holiday read, or for a long journey... as you can immerse yourself quite happily without straining your thinking muscles.
Reading the synopsis, I was really looking forward to reading this book. Once I discovered it was sci-fi I wasn't as happy with it, but I still thought it was good. About 70-75% of the way through it went downhill for me. By then, I could no longer stand one of the characters. The way he was written seemed to just make him unlikeable, and needlessly so. Then the ending - why oh why did they have to do that? I don't want to give away the ending for people who still want to read it, but the ending makes me not likely to recommend it. I did not like the tie in, and, after reading it to that point, applying a small amount of logic tells us the ending doesn't fit what we've already had been told about the abductors.
After having read previous reviews, I was hesitant to purchase this book. Instead, I downloaded the sample...well, after that, I just had to buy it. And am I ever glad I did! A lot of the reviews would have you believe that the book is filled with so many errors, spelling, present and past tense goofs, and other silly nonsense, that the reading is distracting. Not so at all. The story draws you in so deeply, that you glide through the pages. What if? That's what so frightening about Mr. Sabols book. It could be true now, or it could happen in the future. Who knows? A wonderfully entertaining yarn from an author who claims that this is his 1st book. Shocking! He writes like someone who's been in the game a long while. For me, it was 99 cents well spent.
Well, bless his little heart. ) I think the man has some talent, but it's just hidden. This book has not been edited. I think he's got a great idea, and the plot is probably a good one, but it was just too painful to try to plod through with so many glaring erros. And the prose itself - here's an example "I will have a gin and tonic" Bob said. "I will have a gin and tonic" Mary said. Really? You coudn't throw in one contraction here and there? I see now that it's a self-published book, so that may explain it. I hate to be mean to any author, but dude please ask your wife or best friend to edit before publishing!
I can't believe I didn't read the reviews before I actually purchased this book.... It reads for all the world like bad attempt at a writing class for 3rd graders!! WOW!! If this author, and I use the term very loosely, is writing more he needs to see someone who can give him a lot of help. I couldn't even get past the third chapter.... I kept hoping for improvement.... but none came.... Anyone contemplating reading this book, take my advice. Unless you are hooked on the old "Dick-and-Jane" school stories.... don't bother!
I'm still trying to figure out why I even bothered to finish this story. Awful dialogue, no sense of verb tense, typos galore, and an interesting idea completely ruined in the last few chapters. I'm glad I picked this one up when it was free. Stop having friends and family review your work; take a writing class and join a writing group where you can get some constructive and objective criticism to help improve your work, then try this story again.
